About Splendour Mountains Tour

 

Mountainering would be a one of the definite interests of tourists. Mongolia has a diversified natural scenery and "Altai Tavan Bogd" should be in your list if you love hiking the most. Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain is the tallest mountain in Mongolia, with altitude of 4374m. In this sense, it is called the roof of Mongolia.  Tavan Bogd Mountain has five main peaks, and the three largest glaciers in Mongolia, the Potanin Glacier, the Alexander Glacier, and the Grane Glacier. The largest of these is the Potanin Glacier, which is about 14 km long. Since the first Mongolian mountaineers climbed in 1956, more than 700 climbers have climbed it, and it has become a favorite mountain for domestic and foreign climbers. In 1996, Altai Tavan Bogd Uul, Khoton, Khurgan, Dayan Lake, Khovd, Khar Salaa, Tsagaan Salaa, Songinot and Yolt river basins were taken under state protection as Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. In 2012, Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain was declared a state sacred mountain and worshiped every four years.

 

Agenda

 

Day 1: Ulgii City

 

In the morning, we will gather at Chinggis Khaan Airport at 06:30 and fly at 08:00 to Bayan-Ulgii aimag, 1709 km from Ulaanbaatar, which is located in the westernmost part of Mongolia, for about 3 hours.  At the airport, you will be greeted by a local driver and will begin a field trip to the Tsagaan River, which flows from the Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain.lOn the way, we will see the rock paintings of Shiveet Khairkhan, reach the national park camp in the famous Tsagaan river and spend the night in a tent. Dinner will be served in the field kitchen. The Tsagaan River flows into the Khovd River, which originates in the southeastern glacier of the Altai Tavan Bogd. 

 

Day 2: Altai Tavan Bogd / 18km /


After breakfast, walk to Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain / 18km /. At the beginning of the trip you will see the Suun River and then the Potanin Glacier, the largest glacier in Mongolia. At the foot of Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain, we will have lunch on the banks of the glacier and go to a mountaineering camp.  Yyou can either have hiking or horse trekking for 18 km to the mountaineering camp which is located at 3,600 meters above sea level and we will spend the night with a tent on the banks of the Potanin Glacier. 

 

Day 3: Altai Tavan Bogd / 4037m /


After breakfast, the climbers carry their lunch in their backpacks. Take a walk along the Potanin Glacier and climb the Herder's Peak, the lowest peak in the Altai Tavan Bogd Mountains. From the top of the herder, you can see the borders of Russia, Mongolia and China. In the afternoon, on the way down from the summit, visit the 1st column of the Mongolian-Russian border. This evening we will also spend the night in a mountaineering camp. The Mongol Altai Mountains cover 96% of Mongolia's glaciers. The Potanin Glacier, Mongolia's largest glacier, extends 20 kilometers from the headwaters of the Tsagaan River and covers an area of 24 square kilometers. 

 

Day 4: Altai Tavan Bogd - Ulgii City

 

After breakfast, return to the Small Forest Closure. After walking about 6 km, you will come to Baga Oigar ovoo. Here we take a souvenir photo and get in the car. You will drive 170 km to Ulgii where we will enjoy the Kazakh national dish and relax in traditional yurt camp.

 

Day5: Ulgii City - Khyargas Lake

 

After breakfast, visit the central outskirts of Ulgii. Then we will go to the beautiful Khyargas Lake in Uvs aimag. 230 kilometers southeast of the center of Uvs aimag and 60 kilometers from Zavkhan soum, in the eastern part of Khyargas Lake, there is a 20-meter-high underwater cliff 5-7 kilometers long, called Hetsuu Khad. Some of the peaks of the rock protrude from the water and look like an island. The protruding top is a paradise for waterfowl, where they build their nests and lay their eggs. AV Burdukov, a Russian tourist, wrote in his diary: Khyargas Lake is rich in Altai otters, Ottomans, Mongolian grayling, scorpions, and yellow fish, so it is the main food for birds nesting in Hetsuu Khad. On the way, we will have a rest after eating field food and will continue to visit the Hetsuu Khad tourist camp on Khyargas Lake in Uvs aimag. Here you can take a hot bath and go to the lake to relax from a field trip. 

 

Day 6: Khayrgas Lake - Ulgii City - Ulaanbaatar

 

After breakfast, return to Ulgii and visit the Wedding Palace, the Aimag Museum and the Kazakh shop which will be the end of our memorable journey. After dinner, come to the hotel and rest and fly back to Ulaanbaatar on the next day.
